STANFORD - Junior Megan Psyllos and sophomore Jessica Kreck scored for California, but the Golden Bears fell to No. 12 Stanford, 4-2, Friday night on The Farm. With the loss, Cal fell to 5-10, 3-2 in the NorPac Conference, while the Cardinal improved to 13-2, 5-1.

Both teams scored in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Stanford's Becky Dru tallied the game's first goal in the fifth minute on a converted penalty corner. The Bears evened the score at one quickly when Kreck tallied her fifth goal of 2009 in the eighth minute. Kreck dribbed down the middle of the field and was able to shoot one past the Stanford goalkeeper Alessandra Moss.

The Cardinal added two more goals to take a 3-1 lead at the half, as Rachel Mozenter and Midori Uehara each scored. Mozenter blasted a shot past Cal's keeper, Maddie Hand, in a scrum right in front of the cage. Uehara secured her 11th goal of the season when Stephanie Byrne fed her a pass after a quick run along the baseline.

Just over two and a half minutes into the second half, Stanford took a commanding 4-1 lead when Dru scored her second goal of the match and her ninth on the season. She fired a rocket shot from the top of the circle that found the back of the cage.

Psyllos helped the Bears leave the field with a little bit of a better taste in their mouths when she notched her score in the 62nd minute. Freshman Deanna Kennedy earned her team-leading seventh assist of the season in the process. Psyllos scored off of a penalty corner, taking the pass from Kennedy and slipping past Moss to gain the score.

Stanford outshot Cal, 12-10, and the Bears earned seven penalty corners to the Cardinals' five. Sophomore Erin Magill led all players with four shots and three shots on goal.

Cal finishes the regular season against UC Davis on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m.
