Box Score

FARMVILLE, Va. - California routed Appalachian State, 7-0, on Sunday at Longwood's Athletics Complex to run its record to 4-1 (3-0 NorPac). Senior midfielder Ashley Glosz and freshman defender Erin Magill each scored two goals for the Golden Bears, while senior midfielder Andrea Lo, senior forward Caitlin Byrne and junior forward Kellie York each scored once against the Mountaineers, who fell to 0-4 (0-2 NorPac). Cal senior defender Rachel Moffitt also added a game-high four assists.

Cal dominated the game, outshooting Appalachian State, 30-1, and taking a 15-1 advantage in penalty corners. The Bears also forced the Mountaineers to make 10 saves, while Cal senior goalkeeper Kelly Knoche, who played the first half, and freshman teammate Maddie Hand, who played the second half, combined to make one save.

Longwood served as a neutral site for Cal's last two games after Cal played the host Lancers on Sept. 4. The Bears have played their first five games of the season in a nine-day span, including playing their last three games in four days in Farmville.

"This game made me the most nervous because it came at the end of a long week," Cal head coach Shellie Onstead said. "We really did a nice job of keeping it on our end of the field. We were pressing quite well but not converting and turning opportunities into goals. But we got it going, and at least it didn't take us to the second half to score. I was pretty pleased."

Onstead praised the play of Magill, who has made the most of her starting role. Magill assisted on Glosz's first goal against ASU and also scored the gamewinner with today's first goal.

"Erin's one of those situations where she didn't necessarily have a spot on the field," Onstead said. "We had come out of the summer with some injuries, and that opened up an opportunity for her. She took it. It got her on the field. She played well enough at left half, which is a difficult position, that I could incorporate her into corners. She's got a good hit."

Cal recorded assists on six of its seven goals, and penalty corners led to Magill's and Glosz's goals. Lo set up Glosz's second goal with her team-leading fourth assist of the season. Cal's overall scoring leader with 10 points this season, Lo is also tied for the Bears' lead in goalscoring with three.

The Bears return to action when they host Albany at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Maxwell Family Field.
