BERKELEY - The California field hockey team (1-3, 0-0 NorPac) lost to Iowa (2-2, 0-0 Big Ten) Saturday evening at Maxwell Family Field in Berkeley.

The Golden Bears did not score until the second period, when junior Valentina Godfrid scored Cal's lone goal, she was assisted on the goal by Teela Crosthwaite. With that goal, Godfrid has collected six goals on the season.

Defensively, goalkeeper Veronica Sykes tallied seven saves. Three of Sykes saves came in the first period and the remaining four in the second. Cal attempted 11 shots on the game, with 10 of the shots posted in the second period. Godfrid led the team with five shots. Senior Chilly Banuelos collected three shots and sophomore Jenny Crane recorded two in the second period.

The Bears return to the field on Monday, Sept. 5 against Syracuse. Match time at Maxwell Family Field is 1 p.m.
