STANFORD, Calif. - California held a late 10-9 lead over MPSF rival Stanford but allowed two goals to lose a thriller, 11-10, to the host Cardinal on Friday night at Maloney Field. Junior Leanne Zilioli and sophomore Laura Cavallo scored two goals apiece to lead the Golden Bears, who fall to 6-5 (1-1 MPSF). Conference leader Stanford, who got a game-high three goals from senior Nina Pantano, improves to 6-3 (4-0 MPSF).

Cavallo's second goal, assisted by freshman Brittany Aungier, gave Cal its final lead at the 51:10 mark. But Stanford scored twice in less than three minutes - Pantano scored at 51:42 and sophomore Michelle DeChant scored the gamewinner at 52:58 - and freshman goalkeeper Laura Shane made a pair of saves to keep the Cardinal's MPSF record perfect. Stanford now has beaten Cal in three of their last four meetings, with the Bears' only win coming in the inaugural MPSF Championship on May 8, 2004. The score was also 11-10, in favor of Cal.

This time, Stanford held a 7-4 halftime lead. Cavallo scored the first goal 55 seconds into the game and Cal sophomore Jocelyn Paul scored the last goal of the first half at 29:35. In between, Pantano scored twice and Kelsey Twist had a goal and two assists for the Cardinal, while Zilioli and freshman Danni Zuralow scored off free position shots for the Bears.

Zilioli scored her second early in the second half, at 30:48, and Cal scored three of the next four goals to knot the game at 8-8. After Stanford retook the lead, 9-8, on Sarah Bach's goal at 42:42, senior Molly Brady scored at 48:46 and Cavallo notched Cal's final goal for a 10-9 Bears lead.

Cal next hosts MPSF foe Saint Mary's at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, at Memorial Stadium.
