Field Hockey Tops Stanford, 3-2 in Overtime

STANFORD, Calif. - The California field hockey team (10-7, 5-1 NorPac) topped Stanford (5-12, 3-2 NorPac) 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Stanford.
Junior forward Valentina Godfrid scored all three of the Bears' goals on Saturday. The Rosario, Argentina, native gave Cal an early lead, when she scored off a penalty corner seven minutes into the game. Senior forward Teela Crosthwaite and senior backfielder Jenna Long were credited with the assists on the goal. Stanford's Caroline Hussey answered three minutes after Godfrid's first goal, with a goal off a Jess Zutz pass.
Stanford opened the second period with a quick goal by Zutz; Julia Drewes was credited with the assist. Godfrid quickly tied the game with another goal off a penalty corner six minutes after Stanford's second goal. Senior backfielder Jessica Bird had the assist on the goal.
In the first minute of overtime, Godfrid scored off a pass from senior midfielder Alana Smith, giving the Bears the victory.
