DAVIDSON, N.C. - The California field hockey team (7-6, 4-1 NorPac) went on a scoring rout against Appalachian State (2-10, 0-4 NorPac) defeating the Mountaineers, 11-0, Sunday afternoon in Davidson, N.C.

In the first 20 minutes of the contest, Cal went on an early run, scoring seven goals. Sophomore forward Jenny Crane scored three quick goals within the first 12 minutes of action. Her first goal was scored off a pass from junior forward Valentina Godfrid. Jenny's second goal came off a deflected corner; senior forward Teela Crosthwaite is credited with the assist. With 11 minutes passed in the first period, Jenny connected again off a Crosthwaite pass from the far post. Two minutes later Jenny scored her final goal of the game, off a Godfrid cross-pass from the near side to the far post.

Three minutes following Jenny's last goal, her sister, freshman forward Missy Crane scored off a pass from senior midfielder Chilly Banuelos. Just a quick two minutes later, Missy and Banuelos connected again for Missy's second goal of the day.

Freshman midfielder Katie Cummings' goal off a shot from the top of the box had the Bears with a strong 7-0 command over the Mountaineers. Godfrid scored her first goal of the game four minutes after Cummings' goal; the goal was unassisted. Freshman forward Andrea Lo connected with Crosthwaite to score the final goal of the first period.

Lo scored again eight minutes into the second period; freshman forward Ashley Glosz was credited with the assist. Cal's final goal of the game was scored by senior backfielder Jessica Bird off a deflected shot.

Cal out shot Appalachian State, 34-3. The Bears spread their shot attempts out - 20 in the first period and 14 in the second period. For Cal defensively, goalkeeper Veronica Sykes collected only one save in the game.

The Bears return to the Bay Area for a match-up against Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Berkeley. Game time at Maxwell Family Field is slated for a 1:00 p.m. (PDT) start.
