Syracuse, N.Y. -
The California women's lacrosse team (4-5) scored three of the first five goals of the day against No. 9 Syracuse on Tuesday. But after the 25:00-minute mark of the first half, the Golden Bears saw nothing but orange, as SU registered six unanswered goals, eventually winnning 17-9.
The Orangemen outshot the Bears 38 to 27 and outhustled California to loose balls, picking up 21 ground balls to Cal's 15 and controlling 18 draws to Cal's 10.
SU was led by Leigh-Ann Zimmer and Monica Joines, who each tallied five goals. The Bears' leading scorers were Colleen O'Mara and Molly Brady, who both scored twice.
Syracuse goalie Jennifer Kasel was the star of the game, holding an explosive Cal team to just nine goals on 27 opportunities.
The Bears move on to Hamilton, NY., where they'll take on Colgate on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
