Final Stats

BERKELEY - Sophomore forward Valentina Godfrid set two California field hockey single season records Saturday as the No. 15 Bears (15-4, 5-1 NorPac) shutout Stanford at Maxwell Family Field on Senior Day, 4-0.

Godfrid scored two goals and added an assist in the Bears' regular season finale. Her 51 points this season vaulted her past current Cal assistant coach Megan Sainsbury (47) for single season points accumulated. Sainsbury set that mark in 1999.

Godfrid's two goals give her 20 this season, one more than the previous record of 19 set by Renee Chatas in 1983.

Cal also won the NorPac Conference West Division outright title Saturday. Had the Bears lost, they would have shared the title with Pacific.

Senior forward Maggie Grimes gave the Bears a 1-0 lead at 6:57, scoring on an assist from junior midfielder Jenna Long.

The Bears pushed their lead to 2-0 at 36:21 when Maggie Grimes redirected a shot by Godfrid past Cardinal goalkeeper Ana Kralovec. That point equaled Sainsbury's mark.

Godfrid provided the final margin of victory with penalty corner goals at 57:07 and 59:49. Both senior midfielder Samantha Gallop and Long assisted on the scores, giving Long three helpers on the afternoon.

The Bears return to action on Thursday in the opening round of the NorPac Postseason Tournament at Davidson College in Davidson, N.C. The Bears open against the host Wildcats at 10:30 a.m. The victor meets the Saint Louis-Southwest Missouri State winner on Friday.
