DAVIS, Calif. - Senior midfielder Sarah Wheatley posted two goals and an assist while freshman teammate Molly Brady added two scores to lead Cal to a 6-3 win over UC Davis in a defense-oriented Mountain Pacific Lacrosse League women's game at Aggie Field Sunday.

The Golden Bears improve to 9-3 on the year and 5-1 in league. The loss snaps the Aggies' winning streak at seven games, and moves their record to 7-4 overall and 1-4 in MPLL play. UC Davis was ranked fourth nationally in last week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II poll.

Aggie attacker Kelly Albin had both of her goals in the first half, scoring her first at the 24:20 mark to tie the game at 2-2. But Brady captured the ensuing draw, advanced virtually untouched to the Aggie cage, and scored 11 seconds later to put Cal up by one. Albin converted a free-position shot about three minutes later to tie the game, 3-3, going into the halftime break. Seven minutes and 27 seconds after intermission, senior attacker Halsey Monger took a pass from Wheatley to give the Bears a 4-3 lead. At that point, Cal switched into a tough defensive mode around its own cage. UC Davis advanced quickly past the offensive restraining line, but was stopped on four straight possessions without getting a single shot at the goal. Then at 54:40, sophomore midfielder Kelley Queisser converted a quick feed from Emily Edwards to give the Bears a two-goal pad. Cal added an insurance goal less than a minute later when Monger set up Wheatley for a sixth score.

Bear goalkeeper Eden Coelho stopped five shots on goal for the Bears, including four free-position attempts. Offensively, Monger recorded one goal -- the game-winner -- and two assists for Cal. The Golden Bears also outshot the Aggies by a 26-16 margin.

The Bears return to action when they travel to Stanford to face the Cardinal, Friday April 12 at 7:00 p.m.
