STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore attacker Emily Edwards posted two goals in a losing effort under the lights Friday night at Maloney Field, as the Stanford Cardinal (5-6, 5-0) upended the Bears (9-4, 5-2), 10-4, in a Mountain Pacific Lacrosse League matchup of the cross-bay rivals. Edwards' two-goal performance leaves her just three goals shy of matching her career-best 34- goal season as a freshman in 2001.

The Cardinal got off to a quick start, controlling the opening draw and advancing the ball down the left side as freshman attacker Julia Calzonetti netted her first of three goals, just 20 seconds into the game. The Cardinal would never look back. In fact, Stanford opened up a commanding 5-0 lead before the Bears would scratch the board on Edwards 30th goal of the season at the 24:09 mark of the first half.

The Bears rallied to open up the second half, scoring on two consecutive goals from sophomores Carley Preble and Julianne Wu, to bring Cal within three, 6-3. But that was as close as the Bears would get as the Cardinal rattled off four unanswered goals in a five minute span to take a commanding 10-3 lead, 45:40 into the match. Edwards notched her 31st of the year at the 56:23 mark, but it wasn't quite enough as her second goal of the night ended the scoring for both sides. Stanford controlled the possession for the game's final minutes, keeping the Bears on the defensive and thwarting any chance of a Cal comeback.

Bear goalkeeper Eden Coelho was busy in the cage, facing 22 Stanford shots, while saving nine. Cal put up 15 shots of their own as Cardinal keeper Virginia Solomon saved eight.

Cal will return to action when they travel to the East Coast to face Holy Cross, Friday April 19 at 7:00 p.m.
