Bears Edge Out American University For 12-11 Road Win

DENVER, Colorado - California edged out a close 12-11 win over American University Sunday afternoon at the University of Denver's Pioneer Field. The victory extends the Bears winning streak to three.

Despite being outshot 37-24, California (3-3 overall, 0-2 in the WWLL) was able to capitalize on turnover opportunities to keep its offense alive. Five Bears scored two goals apiece in the contest.

American (1-2 overall) fell behind early as California jumped out to an 8-4 halftime lead. Freshman attacker Colleen O'Mara and senior midfielder Sarah Wheatley each scored back-to-back goals in the first stanza of play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Eden Coelho proved a huge advantage for the Bears, fending off numerous Eagle attacks en route to recording her 22 saves in front of the cage, a season-high.

California returns home to take on Bucknell University on Wednesday, March 14, at 4:00 p.m. inside Memorial Stadium.
