STANFORD - Senior Sara Baron scored off a penalty corner six minutes into the second half to lift the 16th-ranked Cal field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Stanford in the NorPac Conference Tournament championship game Sunday.

With the win, Cal (12-4) advanced to an NCAA Tournament play-in game Tuesday at Massachusetts (13-8), the Atlantic 10 Conference champion. The Bears were undefeated in league play this year, going 5-0 during the regular season and 2-0 in the conference tournament.

Cal, which defeated Stanford for the third time this season, held a 7-2 shot advantage in the first half, but couldn't break the scoreless tie. However, Baron tallied her 10th goal of the year off an assist by senior Megan Sainsbury.

Cal goalkeeper Sarah Hoehn, who was voted tournament MVP, posted the shutout with five saves. Also named to the all-tournament team for Cal were Baron, Sainsbury, Annika Kuefer and Robin Reschke.
