Won the Pacific Coast Conference high jump title in 1948 with a leap of 6-4 … held the Cal school record for the high jump at 6-7.25, a record that stood for 14 years (a remarkable leap, considering he used a scissors style of jumping) … also tied for third place at the NCAA Championships that year, helping Cal to a fifth-place team finish … ranked No. 6 in the world in the high jump in 1947 … led the Cal basketball team in scoring in 1947, averaging 10.1 ppg and again in '48 with a 14.5 average … earned southern division PCC honors in 1948 and was named the team's Co-Most Inspirational Player that season … delivered the Commencement Address at the time of his graduation to 8,000 assembled graduates in Memorial Stadium … went on to a distinguished career in the legal profession and served in 1991 as the President of the American Trial Lawyers Association.
