Christy Martin is in her first year as interim director of player development with the California women’s
basketball team after joining the program during the 2023-24 season. Martin comes to the Golden Bears
with over 15 years of experience coaching at the women’s collegiate level. At Cal, she will be mainly
responsible for assisting with the team’s recruiting and player assessment efforts.
Martin most recently served as the head women’s basketball coach at NCAA Division II Saint Martin’s
University from 2017-2023. During the 2021-2022 season, she led the Saints to their first top-25 ranking
in school history. She also helped Saint Martin's achieve their first winning season in six years during the
2019-2020 season. Martin coached five GNAC All-Conference players, two GNAC Freshman of the Year
and 21 All-Academic selections during her tenure there.
Prior to SMU, she was the head women’s basketball coach at Tacoma Community College from 2014-17,
where Martin led a turnaround for the program leading it to a 20-win season within three years.
Additionally, Martin was the head women’s basketball coach at Blue Mountain Community College from
2007-14, where she became the winningest coach in program history.
Martin began her playing career at Walla Walla Community College where she was the starting point
guard for the Warriors. She graduated in 2000 from Walla Walla CC and later received her bachelor’s
degree in interdisciplinary studies from Eastern Washington University.
