Tess Romine-Black enters her fourth season as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Women’s Basketball program. In this role, she oversees all operations, including budget management, team travel, student managers, and the execution of ancillary events such as the annual banquet and initiatives like the Race for Change (raising over $20,000 for Cal’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Justice Office) and the Raising the B.A.R (Basketball Activism Representation) Invitational.
Romine-Black previously served as the Director of Marketing for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) from 2018 to 2021, where she led marketing efforts, social media strategy, and content creation. During her tenure, she successfully secured a Google grant that resulted in a 115% increase in website traffic to WBCA.org, created and executed all marketing and branding plans for the association and WBCA events, including the annual WBCA Convention held at the NCAA Women’s Final Four. In addition, she spearheaded all Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives as the association’s staff lead on the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Social Justice Task Force.
Prior to her time with the WBCA, she served as the Assistant Commissioner for New Media for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) starting in April 2017, after a six-month interim role. Romine-Black joined the MAAC in August 2015 as the Director of New Media for Broadcasting & Marketing.
At the MAAC, she served as the primary contact for the MAAC’s ESPN Broadcast package and oversaw ESPN3 productions both on-site and school produced broadcasts. She managed the league’s social media platforms, ticket operations, video operations, and marketing efforts, supervised the new media staff and was the primary marketing and sponsorship contact. She was also the game day producer for the MAAC Men's & Women's Basketball Championships and the AdvoCare Invitational, as well as the host marketing and ticketing contact for several NCAA Division I Championships.
Romine-Black joined the MAAC staff in August 2015 after serving as a Marketing & Promotions Associate with the WNBA Seattle Storm, where she stage-managed games and worked on community outreach events. She also gained experience with Husky Athletics Marketing & Game Day Experience Department as the UW Women’s Basketball Game Day Director and Senior Intern while completing her degrees.
A native of Portland, OR, Romine-Black earned a double degree from the University of Washington in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in English.
