Stockton, who died in an auto accident in 1975, earned first-team All-America, All-Pacific Coast Conference and All-West Coast on Cal’s legendary 1937 football team that registered a 10-0-1 record, including a 13-0 win over Alabama in the Rose Bowl … noted for his blocking ability that opened gaping holes for the likes of College Football Hall of Famers Vic Bottari and Sam Chapman, perhaps his most shining moment came in the 1936 Big Game when he stole the ball from Stanford’s Jimmy Coffis to set up a touchdown in Cal’s 13-0 win over their cross-town rivals … later served on a submarine for four years in World War II.
