As a freshman at Cal in 1980, MacFarland Curran became the first woman All-American in any sport at Cal … she placed third in the 500-meter freestyle and fifth in the 200 free and 1650 free at the AIAW Championships … in her sophomore and junior years, MacFarland Curran once again earned All-American honors and in her senior year was named co-captain of the Golden Bears squad … following graduation she was named a finalist for Cal’s swimming and diving athlete of the decade (1976-86).
