Chapman was a three-year starting halfback in 1935, '36 and '37 and was an outstanding defensive and offensive halfback …  played on the undefeated 1937 team, earning consensus first team All-America honors that year … the '37 team won the Rose Bowl, triumphing over Alabama … drafted in the third round of the 1938 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins, but turned down a professional football career to pursue baseball … played of the Philadelphia Athletics from 1938-41, and 1945-51, as well as for the Cleveland Indians at the end of his career … member of the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame.
