Baker is one of Cal’s few players to have lettered in all four years (1944, 1946, 1947 and 1948) … earned first-team all-coast honors in 1948, having been named a second-team all-coast performer in 1947 … in these two seasons the Bears won all but two games, winning the conference championship in 1948 and going onto play in the 1949 Rose Bowl … earned the Vard Stockton Award as Cal’s outstanding defensive player in the Rose Bowl as a linebacker … also played Rugby during the seasons 1947 and 1948 … after graduating with a degree in civil engineering in 1946, Baker went onto a fine NFL career – being named the league’s Rookie Defensive Lineman of the year for the New York Giants in 1948 and earning All-Pro honors in 1951 and 1952 for the Giants.
