Shaw, McLaughlin Earn 1st Team Pac-10 Honors

A pair of Cal players, receiver Bobby Shaw and special teams standout John McLaughlin, earned first team Pacific-10 honors as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon, after a telephone vote by the head coaches.
Shaw earned first team honors for the second consecutive season after finishing the year with a school record 75 catches for 1,093 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is currently ranked No. 8 nationally with 6.82 catches per game, while he's 13th in receiving yards with 99.36 yards per game. McLaughlin has been a special teams terror all season, especially in kickoff coverage situations. The junior also plays defensive end for the Bears.
Other Cal players who earned Pac-10 honors were defensive tackle Brandon Whiting and offensive lineman Jeremy Newberry, who both pulled down second team honors.
Honorable mention selections were linebacker Matt Beck, safety Marquis Smith and offensive tackle John Welbourn. Other first team Pac-10 selections were quarterback Ryan Leaf of WSU, running backs Skip Hicks of UCLA and Rashaan Shehee of Washington, receiv r Jerome Pathon of Washington, tight end Cameron Cleeland of Washington, offensive linemen Kyle Murphy and Grey Ruegamer of Arizona State, Olin Kreutz and Benji Olson of Washington, defensive end Kailee Wong of Stanford, defensive tackle Joe Salave'a of Arizona, defensive tackle Leon Bender of WSU, defensive end Jason Chorak of Washington, linebacker Pat Tillman of ASU, Chris Claiborne of USC and Jerry Jenson of Washingon. The secondary was defensive backs Brian Kelly of USC, Chris McAlister of Arizona, Mitchell Freedman of ASU and Shaun Williams of UCLA. The specialists were plac kicker Chris Sailer of UCLA, punt er Marcus Williams of ASU, return specialist Troy Walters of Stanford, special teams perfomer Eric Winn of Oregon and all-purpose back J.R. Redmond of ASU.
