Hippensteel of Stanford 6-4, 6-1 … advanced to the quarterfinals of the Fresno State Bulldog Classic by defeating Alex Krohn of Fresno St. 6-2, 6-4, and Sherif Zaher of Sacramento State 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 before retiring to Ari Strasberg of Washington with a sore knee … finished the fall season 8-2 in singles … in doubles, advanced with partner Scott Kintz to the final of the ITA Regional Championships by defeating Stanford's No. 6 seeded tandem of Ali Ansari and Scotty Scott before losing to No. 3 seed Scott Lipsky and David Martin of Stanford 8-4 in the championship … ended the fall ranked No. 36 with Kintz by the ITA …

1999-2000: Missed eight matches due to shoulder surgery … returned on April 4 against Sac State and defeated Benny Andersson 6-7, 6-3, 6-3…finished the season with a 5-4 overall record after going 2-3 in dual match play at the No. 3 and No. 6 spots …

1998-99: Compiled a 13-14 overall record, going 10-10 in dual matches and was a stellar 8-2 at No. 2 singles ... caught fire from mid-February to early April when he amassed nine victories with only two losses, including wins over such ranked opponents as Northwestern's Doug Bohaboy, Utah's Ben Coates and UCLA's Jason Cook ... advanced to the second round of the Pac-10 championships by defeating Arizona's Pascal Salasca before losing to Washington's Robert Kendrick ... teamed with Chris Santoso to form the Bears No. 1 doubles team ... the duo posted a 10-10 record, including a win over then 5th-ranked Ryan Wolters and K.J. Hippensteel of Stanford, 9-7, in a Feb. 27 dual match ... also defeated Mauck and Pollak of SMU, Drew and Kendrick of Washington, and Gullet and Hui of Pepperdine during the dual match season ... at the Pac-10 doubles championship, defeated Hammond and Was of Arizona State, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round before upsetting the 10th-ranked tandem of Kendrick and Drew, 8-5, to advance to the semifinals ... the pair was ranked as high as No. 22 in the country at one point …

1997-98: Had a huge impact on the Cal team during his first year of collegiate competition, winning 20 matches ... earned a starting spot soon after displaying his skills during the fall ... won six straight matches and fell just one win short of advancing all the way from the pre-qualification bracket into the main draw at the All-American Tournament ... victories at the All-American included a 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over UCLA's Jason Cook and a 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 victory against Texas A&M's Dumitru Caradima ... appeared in 18 of Cal's 21 dual matches, mostly in the No. 4 position, where he registered a 5-4 record ... posted two crucial wins during the Region V championship for Cal ... defeated Kansas' Kenny Powell in the Bears 4-3 second round comeback win over the Jayhawks ... produced NCAA Region V championship-clinching victory with win over Oklahoma State's Chris Bates, sending the Bears on to Athens ... saw limited doubles action on the season but did team with fellow freshman Scott Kintz to record a 6-8 overall mark (5-7 dual) ... the tandem's key dual match victories included an 8-6 win over Dani and Was of Arizona State as well as an 8-6 win over Allegre and Cook of UCLA.
