No. 1 UCLA Defeats Cal, 5-2

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 1 ranked UCLA men's tennis team defeated the University of California, 5-2, in a Pac-10 Confernece dual match today at the Los angeles Tennis Center. Fox Sports West 2 will delay braoadcast today's No. 1 singles and highlights of the NO. 1 doubles matches tonight at 8 p.m.

Play began with UCLA claiming the doubles point with wins on courts No. 2 and 3, despite losing in the No. 1 doubles slot. UCLA's team of Eric Taino and Alex Decret started the match by posting an 8-1 win over Cal's Nathan Jackman and Alex Sueuer in the nubmer two slot. In the third position, UCLA's Matt Breen and Jason Cook teamed for an 8-5 win over Cal's Alex Sueur and Minh Le. For the second day in a row, UCLA's top doubles team of kevin Lim and Eric Lin, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation, was upset in the No. 1 position. Today it was Cal's 50th ranked team of Chris Santoso and David Sutton which managed the 8-5 upset.

In singles, UCLA won four of the six matches to secure the team win, including the televised match at the No. 1 position where Taino defeated Santoso, 6-2, 7-5. After winning the doulbes point, UCLA head coach Billyi Martin decided to rest No. 3 singles player Kim and insert Lin in the NO. 6 position. Lin came through with a straight-set, 6-1, 6-3, win over Brian Fernando and Vince Aleegre posted a 7-5, 6-0 UCLA win over Jackmon in the No. 3 slot. Breen carned the final UCLA victory with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Sutton at No. 4. Both of Cal's wins were in three sets as Le defeated UCLA's Cook 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 5 and Jackmon defeated the Bruins' Decret 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 2.

UCLA improved its record to 20-1 overall and 7-0 in Pac-10 play, while Cal fell to 8-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
