Jackmon/Mahal Win Rolex Regionals Championship
Berkeley, CA -- In an all Cal final at the Rolex Regional-Intercollegiate Tennis Championships, the doubles team of Bobby Mahal and Nathan Jackmon defeated teammates Michael Hill and David Sutton, 6-2, 6-4, on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Hellman Tennis Center in Berkeley. By virtue of their tournament championship, Mahal and Jackmon qualify for the 1997 Rolex Indoor National Championships in Dallas, Feb. 6-9.
Cal Associate Head Coach Cordell Ho said, "In my position, I wanted both teams to win. It's not about playing favorites so I can only congratulate Nathan and Bobby on their victory. What is significant here is that each of these teams defeated top teams from Stanford in the semis to reach the final."
