THE MATCH-UP:
On Monday, March 25, the Cal men's tennis team hosts BYU at noon at the Hellman Tennis Center. On Friday, March 28 the Bears enter the heart of the Pac-10 schedule with a match against Arizona State at 1:30 followed by Arizona State on Saturday, March 29, at Noon.
THE LINEUPS:
Head coach Peter Wright has yet to set a lineup for this week's matches, however, Cal's No. 1 singles player, Bobby Mahal, who returned to action for the Oklahoma dual, re-aggravated a sore elbow and is listed day-to-day. Look for Chris Santoso, David Sutton, Nathan Jackmon, Minh Le, Brian Fernando and Chris Cornell to see action against BYU. Alex Sueur, who sustained a sprained ankle in Cal's 6-1 win over San Jose State may be ready to re-enter the lineup in time for matches against the Arizona schools.
PREVIOUS MATCH UPDATE:
In a busy week of competition, the Bears notched victories over Oklahoma, March 14, and San Jose State, March 19, before dropping a match to No. 22 Fresno State on March 22. In the 4-3 win over the Sooners, it was David Sutton's 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Jave Rush at No. 5 which proved to be the difference in the match. Against the Spartans, Cal cruised to a 6-1 decision taking eight of nine matches. The only loss, however, could be the most costly, as Alex Sueur retired after a sprained ankle in his match at No. 2. Cal hit the road following the pair at Hellman and traveled to Fresno to take on the Bulldogs. The Cal lineup, missing both Sueur and Mahal, suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs. The match was closer than the score reveals as both Nathan Jackmon and Sutton took their opponents to three sets.
THE COMPETITION:
BYU comes to Cal with an ranking of No. 64 in the current ITA poll. The Cougars are 8-4 on the year and are coming off a 6-1 victory over San Jose State. They are led by senior Boris Bosnjakovic who had a record of 7-2 at No. 1 singles prior to San Jose.
Arizona State comes to Cal with an ranking of No. 53 in the current ITA poll. The Sun Devils are 8-6 on the year and are coming off a 5-2 loss to USC. They are led by senior Sergio Elias who has a record of 8-9 at No. 1 singles.
Arizona comes to Cal with an ranking of No. 62 in the current ITA poll. The Wildcats are 5-2 on the year and are coming off a 5-2 loss to UCLA. They are led by Henrik Wagner, who defeated No. 12 Eric Tanio of UCLA, last week.
CAL IN THE RANKINGS:
The Bears are currently the No. 46-ranked team in the ITA's Rolex Spring No. 2 rankings, released March 18. Individually, Cal players rank as follows:

THE COACHES:
Peter Wright enters his fourth year at the helm of the Cal program after spending last summer in Atlanta as head coach of the Irish Olympic tennis team. The ninth coach and fourth alumnus to lead the Bears, he boasts a 44-33 (.571) career record and earned Wilson/ITA Regional Coach of the Year honors in 1994. Wright is assisted by associate head coach Cordell Ho, who is also in his fourth year with the Bears.
