California Travels to Hawaii for Dual Meet Competition

BEARS OPEN DUAL MEET COMPETITION: After a long fall that has seen Cal players individuals travel to Maryland and Arizona for tournament play, Sun. Nov. 24 marks the first time Cal will compete as a team when the take on Hawaii in Honolulu at 12 noon.

FULL SQUAD TO TRAVEL: Cal coach Peter Wright will be taking a full squad of players on the road trip. Scheduled to travel are Michael Hill Sydney, Australia), Bobby Mahal (Brampton, Canada), Nathan Jackmon (Santa Barbara, CA), Chris Santoso(Vancouver, Canada), Alex Seuer (Compiegne, France), David Sutton(San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Kian Raiszadeh (Oakdale, CA).

CAL AT ROLEX REGIONALS: The Bears played host to the Rolex Regional Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, Nov. 9-12, at the Hellman Tennis Complex. On the singles side, the Bears looked to be in good shape advancing six player to the round of 16 but only Sutton and Santoso made it through to the quarterfinals where they each fell to opponents from Stanford. The doubles draw was a different story for the Bears as the Hill-Sutton combo as well as Mahal-Jackmon duo defeated teams from Stanford in the semis and advanced to play an all Cal final. In the end it was Mahal/Jackmon winning the championship 6-2, 6-4 and qualifying for the Rolex Indoor National Collegiate Championships in Dallas next February.

TENTATIVE LINEUPS: Cal coach Peter Wright has not set his lineup for the upcoming dual, however look for the doubles teams of Mahal/Jackmon and Hill/Sutton to stay together. In additon, Michael Hill, ranked No. 9 in the ITA preseason poll, should return to singles play after concentrating on doubles at the Rolex Regionals.
