No. 20 Ranked Men and Women Battle at Rolex Regional
STANFORD, Calif. -- The California men's and women's tennis teams will face off
against the top regional competition in the Rolex Regional
Championships. The women' s tournament is hosted by Stanford and
will run Nov. 7-10 in Stanford. The men's tournament, hosted by
Cal, gets under way at 8:30 a.m, Sat., Nov. 9, with the
championship rounds scheduled to be contested Tuesday.
THE DRAW: In both events, the seeds are dominated by Cal and
Stanford players. On the men's side, Cal highest singles seed,
Chris Santoso finds himself an No. 4 behind trio of Cardinal. In
men's doubles action, Bobby Mahal and Nathan Jackmon are seeded
No. 2, once again behind a pair from Stanford. In the women's
event, Cal finds itself in a similar predicament as the highest
singles seeding for the Bears is that of Amanda Augustus at No.
5 behind four Stanford players including No. 1 seeded Ania
Bleszynski. Augustus teams with Francesca La'O (No. 8 sing.) to
make up the Bears No. 2 seeded doubles team which is expected to
challenge the No. 1 Stanford duo for the championship.

CAL IN THE RANKINGS: The Cal men's and women's team were each
ranked No. 20 in the ITA Rolex preseason poll. The men moved up
10 spots from their 1996 finish while the women improved one
from the No. 21 finish last season. Individually, the Bears are
