No. 18 Cal travels to Miami, Florida State

The Match-Up: The 18th-ranked California women's tennis team travels to No. 25 Miami , Saturday, Feb. 22, and No. 52 Florida State, Sunday, Feb. 23. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EST.

The Lineups: Seven Cal players are expected to see action this week. The tentative singles lineup includes; Amanda Augustus, Francesca La'O, Claire Curran, Stephanie Tibbits, Emeka Mayes, Lisa Swierniak. Expect to see teams of Augustus/Curran, La'O/Jenny Lee and Mayes/Swierniak in doubles play.

Match Update: Sweeping through singles action, the California Golden Bears women's tennis team defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs, 8-1 at Hellman Tennis Complex on Feb. 14. Amanda Augustus led the way for Cal, winning her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. Cal's Francesca La'O and Claire Curran followed suit, each winning in two sets. The Bears were also successful in doubles play, winning two of the three matches. Cal returned to the court Feb. 15, but did not fare as well against University of Nevada-Las Vegas. UNLV won four of six singles matches, en route to a 6-3 victory over the Bears. No. 2 La'O and No. 6 Jenny Lee played well for the Bears winning their singles matches and teaming up for a win at No. 3 doubles. Cal travels to Florida the weekend of Feb. 22-23 for dual meets with Miami on Saturday and Florida State on Sunday.

The Competition: Miami is currently ranked No. 25 by the ITA. The Hurricanes are 6-1 on the year in dual match competition and are led by Caroline Hora, who is undefeated in seven matches at No. 1 singles this year. Florida State enters the weekend with a record of 2-3 in dual match play. With a No. 52 ranking in the country, the Seminoles are coming off an 8-1 win over Florida International.

Cal In The Rankings: The Bears are currently the No. 18-ranked team on the ITA's Rolex Fall Rankings, released Dec. 10. Individually, Cal players rank as follows: singles doubles 69 Amanda Augustus (so.) 12. Amanda Augustus (so.)/Francesca La'O (so.) 104(t) Francesca La'O (so.)

The ITA's Spring No. 1 ranking will be released in March.

The Coaches: One of the Top 10 winningest coaches in women's collegiate tennis, Jan Brogan is in her 19th year as the Bears head coach with a career record of 342-139(.711). She is joined by first-year assistant Ann Henricksson, who spent more than 15 years on the women's professional tour.
