BERKELEY - A.J. Soares marshalled a stingy defense that allowed just one goal in two, double-overtime road games against nationally ranked Indiana (No. 20/21) and Notre Dame (No. 18) last week, making the senior co-captain the California Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week.

Soares was named the Defensive MVP of the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic and a member of the all-tournament team. Cal (1-0-1 record) won the Hoosiers' tournament by virtue of upsetting IU, 2-1, and tying the Irish, 0-0, in a pair of overtimes games to open the 2010 season.
