Next Week: Friday April 3 USC 1:30 pm

ON TAP: With last weekend's match versus Brigham Young being halted after doubles by rain, Cal could potentially play four matches this week. The Bears will attempt to complete their contest with BYU either Monday or Tuesday (Mar. 23 or 24) prior to hosting Kansas on Wednesday (Mar. 25) and traveling to Arizona (Mar. 27) and Arizona State (Mar. 28) this weekend.
THE LINEUPS: Head coach Peter Wright has yet to set a lineup for this week's matches. However, look for Bobby Mahal, Nathan Jackmon, Adrian Barnes, Kian Raiszadeh, Minh Le and Erik Dmytruk to see action in the singles line up. The teams of Mahal/Jackmon, Santoso/Sutton and Minh Le/Erik Dmytruk should comprising the doubles squads.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: After opening the season with a disastrous 1-5 start, Kansas has rebounded to win six of their last eight and enters Wednesday's match with a 7-7 mark. The Jayhawks received a No. 24 ranking in the Fall ITA/Rolex poll but slipped to their present position at No. 50 after the poor start. Cal has won all three meetings between the two schools, including the last one in 1989, 6-3. Ranked No. 51 in the Spring I ITA poll, Arizona State enters the week with a 5-6 overall record, 1-4 Pac-10.
Last year, the Sun Devils took two of three from the Bears, including a victory over Cal at the NCAA Regionals, 4-2. The other two matches were both decided by the doubles point, with both teams coming out on top at home. Cal holds a 32-8 advantage in the all-time series. With a 4-5 overall record, 1-4 Pac-10, Arizona has climbed from a Fall ranking of No. 61 to the No. 47 slot. Last year, Cal swept the Wildcats, 6-1 at Home and 4-3 in Tucson, and increased its lead in the all-time series to 29-8.
PREVIOUS ACTION: Despite beginning the contest one hour early, the California men's tennis team's non-conference dual match with Brigham Young still fell victim to rain in the Bay Area last weekend and was not completed. Cal opened the match by winning the doubles point and took an early 1-0 lead before showers began around shortly after noon. In play that was completed, Adrian Barnes and Scott Kintz knocked off the BYU duo of Jason Hardin and Jeff Harbach, 8-3, at No. 3 and Minh Le and Eric Dmytruk defeated Nic Losee and Brad McIntosh, 8-5, to secure the doubles point for Cal. The Cougar twosome of Manuel Calvo and Damien Ward were victorious at No. 1, 8-6, over the Bears Bobby Mahal and Nathan Jackmon.
THE COACHES: Peter Wright enters his fifth year at the helm of the Cal program. The ninth coach and fourth alumnus to lead the Bears, he boasts a 56-43(.566) career dual match record and earned 1997 Pacific-10 Conference Southern Division Coach of the Year honors following last season. Wright is assisted by associate head coach Cordell Ho, also in his fifth year at Cal.
