Biography

A solid all-around competitor...best event is floor exercises, off which he dismounts with a double layout.

2011: Competed for the Bears on floor, rings and vault...placed first on vault in the meet against Iowa with a 16.250...set a season-high 16.300 and won vault for the second time in a row during a meet against Stanford...recorded a season-high 14.650 on floor in the NCAA Championships...notched a 14.950 on rings in the NCAA Qualifiers for his best mark of the season.

2010: Did not compete, redshirted.

Personal: Qualified to regional championships and junior Olympics all four years of high school, making the top-36 in the all-around three of the four years...finished 14th in the all-round at the junior nationals...spent time under former Golden Bear Ron Bell...took third on vault and 15th in the all-around at the 2007 junior Olympics and 14th in the all-around in 2008...also competed at the Visa National Championships in 2007 and 2008, taking third on still rings in 2008 and tying current Cal teammates Donathan Bailey and Glen Ishino for second on rings in 2008...was the NorCal state champion on the all-around in 2008...voted team captain and most consistent...also participated in several of his high school's dance teams, also dancing in local productions, volunteered with his youth group and was also involved with photography club...parents are Naomi Kitajima and Tom Lagenstein.
