Rugby Bears Playing Internationally
Former, Current Players In Action This Summer
Former and current Cal Rugby players have had a lot of success playing internationally this summer.
Earlier this week, former Cal rugby and current USA Eagles prop Jack Iscaro was named to the Barbarian FC team for a game against Wales tomorrow at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham, England, as well as to the 2026 USA Men's Eagles Nations Cup Squad.
Iscaro played for Cal from 2016-2019, when he was a force in the Golden Bears' forward pack, helping lead the program to back-to-back national Varsity Cup XV's championships in 2016 and 2017, and D1A finals appearances in 2018 and 2019. He made numerous starts as a prop for the Bears, earning All-America honors in his senior year.
Sophomore prop
Oliver Kirk was selected to play for Team USA's U20 team in Georgia and will start the match tomorrow against Argentina. Kirk started in 13 matches at the No.1 prop position this season for the Bears, helping lead them to their second straight national championship. Kirk scored two tries this season and was named to the D1A All-American Team.
Senior flyhalf
Rand Santos played for Team USA 7s at the HSBC SVNS World Championships. He helped lead the Eagles to victories over Spain, Australia and Uruguay, scoring conversions against Spain and Uruguay in his first USA 7s appearances. The Eagles were defeated by Spain in the quarterfinal round, but defeated Fiji in the fifth-place game to earn a promotion into the top-tier championship.
Santos captained the Bears this season, starting in 14 matches and scoring nine tries. He went 24-for-27 on conversion kicks and was named to the D1A All-American Team.
Senior center and USA qualified
Max Threlkeld played in three matches for Hong Kong's XVs side. He started the first leg against Japan and came off the bench in the second leg. Threlkeld also recently played in a match against Waikato, again coming off the bench.
Threlkeld started in eight matches this season for the Bears, scoring 10 tries and twice recording a hat trick. He was named to the D1A All-American Team.
Junior wing/fullback
Jack Byszio represented the German 7s side at the Amsterdam 7s, helping lead his team to the quarterfinals. He also played with SC 1880 Frankfurt in the Bundesliga in Germany men's division 1. He played in the men's national championship semifinal and final matches, helping lead his team to the Bundesliga championship.
Byszio played in five games this season for the Bears, earning one start against Army on March 14.
Freshman wing
Gur Levy played for Israel's 7s team against the Fijian United Nations team and in the European Men's 7s Conference 1 tournament. He scored six tries and helped lead his team to the championship in the Conference 1 tournament. Levy played in five matches this season for the Bears, earning three starts, and scoring three tries.
