Passola Folch Named CSC Academic All-American
California women's tennis co-captain
Berta Passola Folch capped an amazing career when she was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team, the CSC announced Tuesday. This is the first CSC Academic All-America honor for the Spaniard, who completed a stellar Cal tenure in early May when she led Golden Bears to the second round of the NCAA Championship.
Â
To claim a spot on the CSC Academic All-America Team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Additionally, the student-athlete must have been named to the CSC Academic All-District Team, as Passola Folch was in May. To be eligible athletically, nominees must be in the lineup for 75 percent of an institution's days of competition (regional competition such as ITAs and non-team scored events do not count).
Â
Passola Folch — a senior majoring in sociology and global studies — excelled on the courts and the classroom throughout her career. She is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete who was named to the All-ACC Academic Team last season. She posted a spectacular fall half of the 2025-26 season, advancing all the way to the NCAA Singles Championship final match and earning singles All-America honors. In the spring, the Barcelona native helped lead Cal to the second round of the NCAA Championship, a No. 22 ranking in the last ITA poll of the season and a 13-8 record. She earned a final No. 24 singles ranking, was named to the All-ACC Singles First Team, completed her final season as a Bear with records of 29-8 in singles and 16-10 in doubles, and collected an ACC Player of the Week accolade. For her career, Passola Folch finished with a singles record of 89-44 and a doubles record of 54-43.
