Cal’s Season Finishes In Round Of 16

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 14 California women's gymnastics closed out the 2026 season at the NCAA Tempe Regional final with its fourth-place finish at Desert Financial Arena on Saturday night. The Golden Bears put up a 196.975 behind No. 3 Florida (198.050), No. 6 Georgia (197.050) and No. 11 Michigan State (197.000). Tonya Paulsson finished in a tie for second place on floor while Annalise Newman-Achee collected a podium finish with her share of bronze on balance beam.

The Bears faced the challenge of starting out on beam for their first rotation, but Newman-Achee rose to the occasion to put up a 9.900 as Cal's anchor. Paulsson notched a 9.850 and fifth year Abbey Scanlon stuck her dismount and earned a 9.800 in what was her final routine of her collegiate career. The Bears put together a 49.050 event score.

Cal had its strongest event of the night in the second rotation, putting up a 49.425 on floor. Jayden Silvers received a 9.875 and Kyen Mayhew performed a 9.850 to round out the Bears' top scores of the rotation.

Casey Brown set the tone on vault with a 9.850 from the leadoff position. Mayhew and Mya Wiley matched her score from the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively, which was a season-high for Wiley. Cal compiled a 49.150 on vault as a team.

The Bears ended on a high note, putting together a 49.375 on bars to close out their time at the Tempe Regional. Wiley set a new personal-best 9.900 from the second spot in the lineup. Melkonian and Paulsson both matched Wiley's score to cap the solid outing on the Bears' best event of the 2026 season.

With the top two finishers at each regional final advancing to nationals, the Bears' season comes to a close and the Gators and the Bulldogs will make the trip to Fort Worth, Texas.
