Bears Punch Ticket To NCAA Regional Final

Cal Finishes In Top 2 Of Semifinals To Earn Spot In Round Of 16

TEMPE, Ariz. – No. 14 California women's gymnastics punched its ticket to the NCAA regional finals after placing second in the Tempe Regional semifinals on Saturday night in Desert Financial Arena. The Golden Bears will take on No. 3 Florida, No. 6 Georgia and No. 11 Michigan State in the round of 16 on Saturday night at 5 p.m. PT. The top two finishers in Saturday's final will advance to NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas.
 
Tonya Paulsson notched her first of three 9.900s of the night as the Bears' anchor on uneven bars in the first rotation. She earned a portion of third place on the event. Annalise Newman-Achee scored a 9.875 and Sage Melkonian earned a 9.850 to help Cal to a 49.200 event score, which was good for second place behind Florida at the end of the first rotation.
 
Sarah Lee, Abbey Scanlon and Miki Aderinto each received a 9.800 on balance beam and Paulsson matched her career best with a 9.900 in the second rotation. The Bears put together a 49.050 event score, holding onto second place at the midway point of the competition.
 
Floor was Cal's best rotation of the night, with Casey Brown, Newman-Achee and Jayden Silvers posting three-straight 9.850s from the front half of the lineup. CJ Keuneke matched her career high with a 9.900 and Paulsson matched Keuneke's score for her third 9.900 in as many events. Keuneke and Paulsson earned a piece of silver on the event. Kyen Mayhew notched a 9.875 to help lift the Bears to a 49.375.
 
Brown performed the best vault of her career, earning a 9.900 from the leadoff spot to get the Bears' final rotation going. She earned a share of bronze on the event. Silvers' vault went 9.825 and Mayhew recorded a 9.850 to help the Bears secure the second-place finish.
 
Paulsson took silver in the all-around with a 39.400.

Florida won the meet with a 198.125, while the Bears' 196.675 outscored #20 Penn State (196.200) and Arizona State (196.050).
