Buddie Leads Decathlon Field After Day 1
Lone Cal Representative At Brutus Hamilton Multis Wins 3 Of 5 Events
BERKELEY – At the end of the first day of the Brutus Hamilton Invitational multi-events competition, California track & field redshirt junior
Luke Buddie leads the decathletes with his highest Day 1 total ever after recording wins in three of his five events at Edwards Stadium on Thursday.
After starting off with a personal-best time of 11.21 in the 100m, Buddie won the event titles in the long jump (6.96m/22-10), shot put (12.74m/41-9.75) and high jump (1.95m/6-4.75), with his shot put mark acting as another career best. He closed out the afternoon with a time of 51.76 to finish with 3762 points – 178 points over the rest of the field.
Blake Gross of Sacramento State set a new meet record in the decathlon 100m (10.77), while Melanie Winters set meet records in the heptathlon 100 hurdles (13.71) and the heptathlon high jump (1.76m/5-9.25) while competing unattached.

UP NEXT
Buddie will look to hold onto his lead Friday at Edwards Stadium as he tackles the final five events of the decathlon. Cal's long jumpers will be competing at the Stanford Invitational at The Farm, while its distance runners will be split between the Stanford Invitational and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco.
