Seth Johnson concluded his Mt. SAC Relays decathlon campaign with an outstanding Day 2 on Thursday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium after posting a 5-PR outing on Day 1, finishing in fifth place (and third best of all collegians in the field) with a total of 7786 points – sixth-best in program history and the most by a Golden Bear since alumnus Hakim McMorris's score of 7941 in 2022. McMorris himself, now competing for VS Athletics as a professional athlete, won his second consecutive Mt. SAC decathlon title with a career-best 8420 points.
Competing in his first decathlon in two years, Johnson started off his day with a wind-legal 110m hurdles time of 14.07 to take third place and match his wind-aided personal best set two weeks prior at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. He then launched the discus over four meters past his previous career mark to finish at 39.04m (128-1), followed by a new outdoor PR in the pole vault (4.50m/14-9) and a fifth-place throw of 56.31m (184-0) in the javelin. Johnson's afternoon finished with his ninth PR of the meet, a fifth-place time of 4:38.21 in the 1500m, to clinch his spot on Cal's all-time top-10 list.
Graduate student
Grace Reinhardt-Perez was the only Cal woman to compete Thursday, throwing the javelin 28.44m (93-3) in the collegiate section.
