Bears Earn No. 1 Seed In West Region

Cal To Host San Diego In First Round of D1A Playoffs

BERKELEY - California rugby has earned the West Region's No. 1 seed in the 2026 D1A National Collegiate Championships, USA Rugby announced Monday. The Golden Bears are slated to host No. 8 San Diego in the first round of the postseason on April 11 in Berkeley.

Cal finished the regular season with an undefeated 13-0 record with victories over UC Santa Cruz (99-0), fifth-seeded Cal Poly (101-0), Fresno State (50-5), UCLA twice (45-0 and 60-14), Olympic Club (75-5), British Columbia (38-7), third-seeded Arizona (57-51), sixth-seeded GCU (76-14), fourth-seeded BYU (64-21), East Region No. 1 seed Navy (52-45), East Region No. 4 seed Army (70-18), and most recently defeated second-seeded Saint Mary's 66-35 last weekend. 

The full playoff bracket is below. Following the April 11 first round matches, the higher-seeded team will receive hosting privileges for the ensuing quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. The national championship match is set for May 2 at Kuntz Memorial Stadium in Indianapolis.
