Bears Beat Bulldogs, 6-1
Cal Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory
In its second match in as many days, the No. 15 California Golden Bears (2-0) defeated the Gonzaga Bulldogs (0-1), 6-1 in Hawai'i on Thursday.
In doubles action, Lenn Luemkemann and Alex Aney quickly gave the Golden Bears its first point of the match with a 6-4 victory on court three. Then, on court one, the pair of Timofey Stepanov and Fryderyk Lechno Wasiutynski picked up a 7-6 (6-1) win to clinch the doubles point for the second consecutive day.
With a 1-0 lead and entering singles play, Fryderyk Lechno Wasiutynski extended Cal's lead to 2-0 after he won, 6-1, 6-2 on court two. On court six, Alex Aney added to the Bears lead after he won in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-1. Finally, on court one, Tiago Silva sealed the win for Cal with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Despite clinching the match, Leonardo Cattaneo picked up a comeback victory on court five, 2-6, 7-5, 10-8).
