Cal Releases 2025-26 Rugby Schedule
Bears To Contest Robust 7s, XVs Slate
BERKELEY – The California rugby program announced its 2025-26 schedule Friday, featuring three sevens tournaments this fall before contesting a full slate of 15-a-side competition. The 144th iteration of Golden Bear rugby will be looking to build upon last year's national championship-winning season.
Â
Head Coach Jack Clark will helm the program for the 43rd year alongside Associate Head Coach Tom Billups who enters year 27 with the Bears in 2025-26.
Â
Cal will return to the pitch to compete on the West Coast 7s circuit, beginning with a one-day tournament in Los Angeles at LA Dignity Health Sports Park on Sept. 27. The Bears will head to Palo Alto for the WC7s hosted at Stanford on Oct. 11 before traveling south to San Diego for the two-day WC7s SoCal competition at the Oceanside Sports Complex. Before the conclusion of the fall semester, the Bears will also contest a XVs match at UC Santa Cruz on Nov. 20.
Â
The Bears will open the 2026 calendar year at Witter Rugby Field vs. Cal Poly on Jan. 10 before making the trip to Los Angeles for the annual Dennis Storer Classic tournament, which makes its return Jan. 17-18 after a one-year hiatus due to the Los Angeles wildfire crisis last year. Cal has topped the tournament every year for the last 18 seasons.
Â
Cal will return to Berkeley to host a contest against the Olympic Club of San Francisco, before the Bears head out on a four-game road swing, making stops at UCLA, Arizona and Grand Canyon, in addition to a cross-border trip to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Cal and the Thunderbirds will continue the historic World Cup Series on Feb. 7. Last year, the Bears beat the T-Birds 49-24 in Berkeley.
Â
The Bears will return to Strawberry Canyon for two highly anticipated matches - against Brigham Young on Feb. 21 before welcoming Navy on March 7 in Cal's annual Homecoming/National Champions celebration.
Â
Cal will close out the regular season on the road with a trip to the East Coast to visit the formidable Army West Point Black Knights on March 14 and will have a meeting with its foes in nearby Moraga at Saint Mary's on March 28.
Â
The D1A postseason will be contested throughout the month of April, with the first round, quarterfinals and semifinals set to be played in consecutive weeks beginning April 11 through April 25, hosted at the home venue of the higher seeded team. The D1A National Collegiate Championship title match will be on May 2.
Â
Kickoff times for home matches at Witter Rugby Field will be announced at a later time. Check back on the schedule page for updates.Â
