Men's Tennis Wraps Up First Tournament Of The Season

SAN FRANCISCO — The California men's tennis team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2025-26 season on Sunday at the Battle in the Bay Classic at the California Tennis Club. 

The Golden Bears' doubles team of Timofey Stepanov and Tiago Silva was the No. 1 seed in the men's pen doubles main draw and advanced to the championship match before falling to the Texas Christian duo of Duncan Chan and Cosme Rolland De Ravel, 8-5. Stepanov and Silva took down pairs from TCU, Boise State and Michigan State along the way.

On the singles side, Silva and Bernardo Munk Mesa each won  opening round matchups against Derrick Chen (Georgia) and Adrien Berrut (USD) respectively, but were not able to make it past the Round of 16.

Other teams in action at the Battle in The Bay event included Illinois, UC Santa Barbara, Arizona, Arizona State, Pepperdine, Stanford, Texas and Santa Clara.
