4 New Bears Join Cal Men’s Tennis
The California men's tennis team bolstered its roster with the addition of four new Golden Bears, Peter Wright Director of Men's Tennis
Kris Kwinta announced Tuesday, including transfers Lenn Luemkemann, Paris Pouatcha and Tiago Silva and incoming freshman Winston Lee.
Silva played three seasons at Pacific in Stockton before heading north to Berkeley. The Maia, Portugal, native competed in the NCAA Singles Championship last fall and, with a 12-7 singles record, finished his junior season as a Tiger as a member of the All-WCC Singles First Team. He also paired with Vraj Patel (9-0) to earn All-WCC Doubles Honorable Mention. Silva, who had an overall record of 17-2 in doubles, was also named to the WCC All-Academic Team. His career-best professional and junior rankings include the following: 13 (UTR), 1,394 (ATP singles), 708 (ATP doubles), 63 (ITA singles) and 310 (ITA junior).
Pouatcha and Luemkemann join the Bears after playing at Oregon. An incoming junior who hails from Hamburg, Germany, Luemkemann was named to the All-Big Ten Singles Second Team in 2024-25. Luemkemann posted a 9-12 dual-match record in singles, all on court one, and compiled a 10-10 doubles mark in the spring. His rankings include 12.9 (UTR), 2,081 (ATP doubles), 97 (ITA singles) and 61 (ITA doubles). Before matriculating at Oregon, Luemkemann was the 61st-ranked player in Germany.
As a freshman in 2024-25, Pouatcha posted records of 9-4 in singles and 10-7 in doubles. The Alpharetta, Georgia, product – who has won three ITF titles – boasts a UTR ranking 12.85 and an ITA juniors ranking of 305. Prior to joining the Ducks, Pouatcha – from Alpharetta, Georgia – was the 24th-ranked recruit in the nation and was the second-ranked blue chipper from the state of Georgia.
Lee is a San Francisco Bay Area native who hails from Cupertino and Cupertino High School. A five-star recruit, he is ranked 30th nationally and fifth from the state of California and has a UTR ranking of 12. In March, Lee took third place in under-18 singles in the USTA Easter Bowl, and he also took third place in U-18 doubles in the USTA winter national indoor championships in 2024.
The newcomers join a Cal program that had a banner year in 2024-25, with the team sending a nation's best six entrants to the NCAA individual championships in November, earning the No. 11 seed in the NCAA Championship in the spring and finishing with a No. 12 ranking in the final ITA team poll of the season.
