This will mark the 80th all-time meeting – and first as nonconference opponents since 1986 – between Cal and USC, which have evenly split their last 10 matchups. The Bears' last win against their former Pac-12 Conference foe  came on Feb. 19, 2023, when they defeated then-No. 25 USC, 81-78, in overtime at Haas Pavilion.

USC is the third confirmed opponent in the Bears' 2025-26 nonconference schedule. Cal opens next season at the 2025 Oui-Play game in Paris against Vanderbilt on Nov. 3 and will travel to face Missouri in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Dec. 4.

Cal is coming off one of its best seasons in recent history in 2024-25; the Bears earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018-19, won 25 games for the first time since 2012-13, maintained an Associated Press Top 25 ranking for eight straight weeks (going as high as No. 18), set a program record for home wins in a season (16), going 16-1 at Haas Pavilion, defeated multiple ranked teams and advanced to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.
