Bears Earn ITA Regional Honors

California women's tennis head coach Amanda Augustus was named the ITA Northwest Regional Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career and two of her Golden Bears – Lan Mi (Most Improved Player) and Mao Mushika (Player to Watch) – also garnered regional honors after a stellar 2024-25 season, the governing body of collegiate tennis announced Tuesday.

In her 18th season as head coach at her alma mater, Augustus led the Bears to the super regional round of the NCAA Championship in May and a 15-9 record in their first season in the ACC. In November, Augustus – who captured NCAA doubles championships as a Cal player in 1998 and 1999 – saw three of her Bears (Mi, Mushika and Katja Wiersholm) compete in the NCAA Singles Championship and one pair (Mushika and Jessica Alsola) play in the NCAA Doubles Championship. In addition to her four regional awards, Augustus was named the Wilson/ITA National Coach of the Year in 2016 and was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year twice.

Mi completed her senior season with a No. 45 singles ranking, a 25-7 singles record and a 13-11 doubles mark. She qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship for the first time and defeated South Carolina's Kaitlyn Carnicella 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round before falling in the second. Mi, who hails from Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, clinched five Cal victories, including the Bears' 4-0 win over Sacramento State in their NCAA tournament opener and 4-0 win over Washington in the following round.

Mushika had a banner sophomore year that included – along with Jessica Alsola – a doubles All-America honor and a spot on the All-ACC Doubles Third Team, as the duo finished with a 15-4 record. The Ichinomiya, Japan, native, also claimed a berth on the All-ACC Singles Second Team. In the final ITA polls of the year, Mushika paired with Alsola to collect a No. 4 doubles ranking and earned a No. 32 ranking in singles. She finished the year with records of 18-12 in singles and 19-8 in doubles.
