Cal Finishes In Top 2 For the 15th Consecutive NCAA Championships

Bears Take Top 5 Spots In 6 Events On Final Day

FEDERAL WAY, Wa. – The California men's swimming & diving team finished second in the 2025 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships with a team score of 471 points on Sunday, extending its streak of top two finishing at the event to 15 consecutive years. The final day saw the Golden Bears in the top five in six separate events while 13 earned All-American honors.
 
In the first event of the evening, Lucas Henveaux earned a third-place finish in the 1650-free freestyle after shaving 2:12 seconds off his school record, finishing in a time of 14:27.62.
 
In the 200-yard backstroke, Destin Lasco, Gabriel Jett and Mewen Tomac finished 2-3-4, respectively. Lasco led the pack with a time of 1:31.41, followed by Jett after finishing at a time of 1:36.76, while Tomac touched in a time of 1:36.90, a personal best.
 
In the next event, Jack Alexy posted a personal best in the 100-yard freestyle, lowering his school record, with a time of 40.36 to finish fourth.
 
Yamato Okadome was the lone Bear in the 200-yard breaststroke, where he placed sixth, earning his fourth All-American honor in his first appearance at the NCAA championships.
 
Dare Rose set another school record of the championships after touching the wall in a time of 1:38.04 in the 200-yard butterfly, earning himself a third-place finish. The day prior, Rose set the school record in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 43.74. He followed by lowering the mark in the championship event to 43.52.
 
In the final event of the night, the foursome of Alexy, Bjorn Seeliger, Matthew Jensen and Lasco placed fourth in the 400-yard freestyle after touching in a time of 2:44.59.
 
Texas claimed the NCAA Championship after topping the standings with 490 points while Cal followed behind with 471 points. It was the closest finish since the Bears placed 11.5 points behind Texas in 2018. Rounding out the top five were Indiana (459), Florida (315) and Tennessee (266.5).
