No. 9 Cal Tops No. 20 FIU, No. 18 Georgia State

Bears Win 3 Straight Ranked Matches

AUSTIN – The No. 9 California beach volleyball team closed out the East vs West Invitational with a pair of ranked wins Saturday defeating No. 20 FIU 3-2 and No. 18 Georgia State 5-0.
 
Cal (14-6) has now won three straight ranked matchups and seven total this season.
 
Three Golden Bear pairs went 2-0 on the day including junior Portia Sherman and sophomore Emma Donley who did not drop a single set on court one. Graduate student Christine DeRoos and senior Ella Dreibholz went undefeated on court three and represented the dual clinching win in both matches.
 
Dreibholz, the program's all-time wins leader, is now up to 92 career victories and continues to bolster that record.
 
Junior Marilu Pally and graduate student Maile Somera played together for the very first time and won all four sets on court five, including a dominant 21-14, 21-5 win over FIU.
 
The Bears will now have a weekend off from competition before returning to the Clark Kerr Sand Courts for Senior Weekend April 4-5. Cal will host a quartet of Bay Area teams in Saint Mary's, San Jose State, Pacific, and San Francisco.
