Lauzon Wins Third All-Around Title

BERKELEY – The No. 6 California women's gymnastics team showed out in its final dual meet of the season Sunday afternoon posting the highest score in ACC history to defeat Pitt 197.775-195.125.

With the win the Bears (12-2, 4-0) remain the only undefeated team in the ACC and will have a chance to clinch the regular season conference title outright with a win over Stanford on Friday.

Not only did the Bears post their highest team score of the season, but they also earned their highest vault (49.425) and balance beam (49.400) scores, second-highest uneven bars (49.400) score, and third-highest floor exercise (49.550) mark.

For the second time this season senior Mya Lauzon collected four 9.9+ routines to win the all-around with a 39.700, which is the second highest score by a Bear this season trailing her own 39.750 vs Stanford on Feb. 7. Lauzon placed second or better on all five events including a share of both the bars and floor titles. Senior Maddie Williams took second with a season-high 49.600 and fellow fourth year Ella Cesario took third with a 39.425.

As they always do at home, the Bears took on the events in Olympic order and got the evening off to a great start with their 10th-highest vault score in program history. Sophomore Kyen Mayhew won the event with a season-high 9.925 and junior eMjae Frazier and Lauzon split the silver by anchoring the lineup with back-to-back 9.90s.

Lauzon and Frazier followed up their performances in the final two spots of the vault lineup with even better marks as the two lead-offs of the bars lineup. Once again, they matched each other, this time with a 9.925 that earned them each a share of the event title. Both were season highs. Williams took home the bronze with a 9.875.

Those same three Bears repeated on the beam podium with Williams notching a career-high tying 9.95 to win the event followed by Lauzon (9.925) in second and Frazier (9.875) in third. Freshman Ondine Achampong, who tore her ACL in April 2024 made her collegiate debut and collected a 9.775 in her first competition routine since the injury.

For the third week in a row the Bears were lights out on floor with four scores of 9.900 or better. Cesario tied her career high with a 9.95 to split the gold with Lauzon. Lauzon has now posted a 9.95 or better on floor in four straight meets and has not scored anything lower than a 9.90 this season. Williams (9.925) snagged bronze and Mayhew (9.90) earned her second 9.90+ of the night to take fourth.

Cal will now prepare for a short road trip this Friday as the Bears will compete in Stanford's quad meet at Maples Pavilion that features the host Cardinal, UC Davis, and Oregon State. First routine is set for 7 p.m. PT on ACCNX/ESPN+.
