BERKELEY – The No. 4 California men's water polo team (13-3) edged No. 5 Fordham (14-2), 15,14, after a back-and-forth fourth period behind a game-winning goal from freshman 
Tomas Perrone with four seconds remaining in regulation on Thursday at Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley.
 
The Golden Bears righted the ship after facing defeat last time out en route to snapping the Rams' 10-game win streak and handing them their second loss of the season. Cal picked up its ninth win against ranked opponents on the season.
 
Dominic Brown led Cal with a game-high and season-high five goals on five shot attempts. Brown has now scored at least two goals in five games this season and has recorded a goal in 10 out of the 16 games during the 2025 campaign. 
Beso Akhvlediani poured in four goals, his 12th multi-score game, and one assist for the Bears. Perrone added two goals, including the game-winner, and two steals.

	- Beso Akhvlediani scored four of Cal's first five goals in the first period.
- The Bears capitalized on both penalty shots in the first eight minutes of action.
- Cal held a 5-3 advantage heading into the second period.
- Riley Clansen tallied four saves and one steal in the second.
- The Bears reclaimed a two-goal lead (8-6) at the half after a late goal by Nik Mirkovic.
- Cal took its largest lead in the third period (11-8).
- The Rams scored four straight goals to start the fourth, taking their first lead of the game (12-11).
- The fourth quarter saw a total of four ties in the frame.
- Dominic Brown scored two goals in the fourth, giving Cal the lead with 52 seconds remaining.
- The Rams evened the score (14-14) after a 7-on-6 goal at the 27-second mark.
- Following a timeout, Tomas Perrone drained the game-winning goal and his second of the frame with four seconds left.
- Goalkeeper Riley Clansen recorded 15 saves in the contest.
- Cal shot 63 percent (15-for-24) from the field.
- Cal finished the game with 12 assists.
