Bears Earn Top Six Finishes in 100-Yard Breaststroke and 200-Yard Freestyle

LA JOLLA – The No. 1 California men's swimming & diving team completed a dominating performance on day two at the Tritons Invitational after having a clean sweep of first-place finishes at the two-dual meet to earn the 389-167 victory on Saturday.
 
Sophomore Humberto Najera got things going after placing first in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 3:52.74.
 
Graduate student Matthew Jensen touched first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 46.76.
 
The Bears took the top six spots in the 200-yard freestyle, led by senior Robin Hanson with a time of 1:34.36, followed by freshman Nans Mazellier (1:34.76), sophomore Keaton Jones (1:34.82), junior Matthew Chai (1:37.84), sophomore Nikolas Antonious (1:38.05) and freshman Thackston McMullan (1:38.89).
 
Freshman Yamato Okadome placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, while six other Bears filled out the top seven spots. Okadome also touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:52.85.
 
Senior Ziyad Saleem secured a first-place finish in a time of 1:41.99 in the 200-yard backstroke.  
 
Junior Matthew Chai placed first in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 14:58.22, while Mazellier took the honors in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 43.05.
 
Cal ended the day with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Mazellier, freshman Lucca Battaglini, junior Colby Hatton and Jenson finished in a time of 1:19.52.
 
Cal returns to the pool Friday at Stanford.
