WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – With about two thirds of Wednesday's opening matches complete, California's 54th-ranked Billy Griffith posted the biggest upset so far at the NCAA Singles Championship in beating Kentucky's eighth-seeded and eighth-ranked Ryotaro Matsumura in the round of 64.
 
Griffith - whose record improved to 16-13 on the season - next plays Arkansas' 18th-ranked Jose Salazar on Thursday at 9 a.m. ET at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. Salazar defeated Oklahoma's 64th-ranked Ferran Calvo, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, on Wednesday.
 
Also on Thursday, the 33rd-ranked duo of Griffith and fellow senior J.T. Nishimura (24-12) will open the NCAA Doubles Championship against North Carolina's second-seeded and second-ranked William Blumberg and Robert Kelly at 2:30 p.m. ET in the round of 32 at Wake.
