TULSA, Okla. - Jack Molloy clinched No. 19 California's 4-2 victory over Tulsa on Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, after the Golden Bear teamed with fellow freshman Ben Draper to clinch doubles against the Golden Hurricane. Molloy defeated Jarod Hing, 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-4, at court-three singles to hand Cal the win.

Earlier, Brits Molloy and Draper bested Joshua Goodger and Louis Corker, 7-5, on court two to claim the doubles point for the Bears.

Cal opens the dual-match season at 2-0, including a 6-1 win over Bryant on Friday at the Case Tennis Center. Tulsa is 1-2.

After Cal took a 1-0 lead, the Bears doubled it when Paul Barretto beat Louis Corker at court-four singles, 6-1, 6-2. The teams traded wins until Molloy wrapped up the victory at court three.

"We played well today against a very good team," Cal head coach Peter Wright said. "They had a great home crowd, and their guys battled to get back into the match after we took an early lead. Credit to our young guys today for maintaining their poise and sticking to the game plan. Our doubles both days (against Bryant and Tulsa) was energetic, and we had some great chemistry out there. We're looking forward to preparing for the ITA Kick-Off at Cal in two weeks."

Molloy is continuing a strong start for the Cal freshmen, who last spring were part of the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation. First-year Bear Barretto, who also won in against Tulsa, reached the singles semifinals at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and was the singles runner-up at the Aggie Invitational at UC Davis, while freshman Jacob Brumm, who didn't play in Tulsa, reached the singles quarterfinals at regionals and won the consolation singles final in the Battle in the Bay Classic. Molloy was the singles runner-up at regionals and also competed in singles in the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships and at the ITA National Fall Championships. Draper, in his first action of the season, went 2-0 with Molloy in doubles in Tulsa, though he's 1-1 in singles after a loss on Sunday.

Cal returns to action when it hosts an ITA Kick-Off Weekend from Jan. 28-29 at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
